Within the Hebrew Scriptures are five poems composing one book we know as the book of Lamentations. It is filled with images of abandonment, grief, doom, sorrow and little hope. While many may want stay away from these types of poems they offer something for everyone. Because everyone suffers, has moments where they are down-and-out, experiences sorrow, witnesses and experiences injustice and has moments of darkness. This book then, composed of elegies, can be for us a companion, a guide to move into the pain, so that we can be transformed as we move through it.
