“Systemic Racism and the Church” Summer Book Study

As a faith community, we must challenge ourselves to follow the ways of Jesus. We must educate ourselves about racism and engage in the difficult work of dismantling systems of oppression that impact our BIPOC brothers and sisters. Our process must include both personal contemplation and action.

One way to engage in racial justice is by joining a summer book study group. These are multi-week group studies on the book “The Trouble I’ve Seen” by Drew Hart. This book is a call to the Christian church to reexamine our perspectives on racism and systemic injustice. Drew Hart is a theologian who offers his lived experience and theological reflections to show how dominant culture and white privilege have thoroughly shaped most of our Christian assumptions. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are eager to reevaluate their own thinking about systemic racism and do so with others.
